Dustid Cookie Policy

1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains which cookies and similar technologies Dustid uses when you visit dustid.com or another website we operate, what each one does, who sets it, how long it lasts, and how to change your choices.

It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains more broadly how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information. Where this policy talks about cookies specifically, the Privacy Policy governs everything else.

We are Addressless Mailing Ltd, trading as Dustid. Our contact details are at the end of this policy.

2. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies do the same job by other means. Together they allow a site to remember a page you have already loaded, understand how it is being used, and measure the effect of advertising. They do not give us access to your files, your email, or your device, and they do not carry your name or address unless you type them in.

The technologies covered by this policy include:

  • cookies set by us, stored in your browser;
  • cookies and local storage set by third parties whose tags we load with your permission;
  • pixels and similar one-pixel measurement beacons;
  • device identifiers and advertising identifiers; and
  • scripts and tags used to measure how our pages are used.

3. How we ask for your consent

On your first visit we show a banner asking you to accept or reject optional cookies. Nothing in the optional categories is switched on before you answer. The answer is stored in a first-party cookie called dustid_cookie_consent so that we do not ask you again on every page.

We do not treat continued browsing, silence, a pre-ticked box, or acceptance of our Privacy Policy as consent to optional cookies. If you reject, we record the rejection and the banner does not reappear.

Where you have not answered, and where the law requires consent, optional technologies stay off and the analytics and advertising storage signals below remain set to “denied”.

4. The categories we offer

  • Strictly necessary. These make the site work and keep it secure: session handling, cross-site request forgery protection, load balancing and remembering your privacy choice. They are set without consent because the site cannot operate without them.
  • Analytics. These tell us which pages are used, which are useful and which are not, so we can improve them. They are optional and only run with your permission.
  • Marketing. These measure whether our advertising is seen and whether it leads to people using Dustid. They are optional and only run with your permission.

Declining one category does not affect the others, and declining all optional categories leaves the site fully usable.

5. Our own cookies

These are set by dustid.com itself. They are strictly necessary and are not used to build an advertising profile.

  • dustid_cookie_consent — remembers the categories you chose and whether you have chosen at all. First-party, set for one year, expires 12 months after it is set.
  • Session cookie — keeps you signed in and preserves the state of a form or an enquiry while you are using the site. First-party, expires when your session ends or after 60 minutes of inactivity.
  • XSRF-TOKEN — protects form submissions from cross-site request forgery. First-party, expires with the session.

6. Analytics cookies

Where analytics is switched on and you have granted the analytics category, dustid.com uses Google Analytics 4 to measure how the site is used. The measurement library is served by Google from googletagmanager.com, and hits are reported back to google-analytics.com.

Google Analytics 4 uses Consent Mode: the storage categories are set to “denied” until you accept, and are updated to “granted” only for the categories you agreed to. Where you have declined, Google may still receive a message without a cookie attached, which cannot be used to identify you across other sites.

Typical cookies set by Google Analytics 4 are:

  • _ga — distinguishes one visitor from another for aggregate measurement. First-party, set for two years.
  • _ga_<container-id> — persists the analytics session state for the property it belongs to. First-party, set for two years.

Google may use these and other cookies to serve and measure advertising on other sites. You can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services in the Google partner sites privacy notice, and you can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.

7. Marketing and advertising cookies

Where the Meta Pixel is switched on and you have granted the marketing category, dustid.com uses the Meta Pixel to measure whether our advertising is seen and whether it leads to people using Dustid. The measurement library is served by Meta from connect.facebook.net, and events are reported back to facebook.com.

The pixel is only loaded after you grant the marketing category, so no advertising measurement runs before you have agreed to it. The events we send are limited to the page you are viewing and the fact that you were served an advert; we do not send you any personal information from your Dustid account with them.

Typical cookies set by Meta are:

  • _fbp — identifies a browser so that Meta can deliver and measure advertising consistently across websites. Set by Meta on our domain, expires after three months.

8. Embedded content and edge services

Some pages embed content hosted elsewhere, and our content delivery network adds a small performance beacon. These are separate from our own cookies:

  • YouTube embeds. Where a page embeds a YouTube video, the player is loaded from youtube.com and may set its own cookies. Playing the video will send information to Google. We do not control those cookies, and you can find Google's rules in its cookie policy.
  • Cloudflare Insights. Our content delivery network may measure page performance using a cookie-free beacon sent to cloudflareinsights.com. It does not identify you and is not linked to any account you hold with us.

9. How long cookies last

  • Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser, or when your session ends.
  • Persistent cookies are stored until the expiry date shown in the table above, which ranges from a few minutes to two years.

You can delete cookies at any time, and browsers also expire them automatically. Removing a cookie does not remove information already collected through it.

10. Your choices and how to change them

You can accept or reject optional cookies when the banner first appears. If you later change your mind, clear the dustid_cookie_consent cookie in your browser settings and the banner will appear again on your next visit, so you can choose afresh.

Clearing the cookie does not, by itself, stop analytics or advertising measurement that a third party has already set. To remove those, follow the instructions in the Google Ads Settings link in section 6 and the Meta cookie policy link in section 7, or use the tools your browser provides.

11. Browser controls

Every major browser lets you view, delete and block cookies, and most let you block them for third-party sites only. Blocking strictly necessary cookies can stop the site from working, which is why we do not ask you to block them. Blocking analytics and marketing cookies leaves the site working normally; we simply lose the measurements.

12. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal. We honour Global Privacy Control as a rejection of analytics and marketing cookies, in the same way as choosing “Reject all” in the banner. We do not currently act on the older Do Not Track signal.

13. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We will update this Cookie Policy when we change the technologies we use, the categories we offer, or the purposes we rely on them for. We will publish the revised policy with an updated effective date, and where a change affects how we use information about you, we will request consent again.
